The Secretariat of the ICPDR is located in Vienna, Austria.

The team of eight staff members supports the work of the ICPDR and its expert groups, assists project development and implementation, and maintains DANUBIS, the ICPDR Information System.

The Secretariat is led by the Executive Secretary Mr. Philip Weller.

The main duties of the Secretariat are to support the work of the ICPDR and its expert bodies, to co-ordinate the ICPDR’s Programme of Work, to support project development, and to maintain DANUBIS - the ICPDR Information System.

In 2000, the ICPDR has been nominated the plattform for coordination of issues of  international importance for the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive. Since this time, the Secretariat supports also the cooperation between the Danube River Basin countries towards the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive.

General management and supervisory functions and the related tasks are carried out by the Executive Secretary, Mr. Philip Weller.

Professional technical and administrative staff supervises and controls the quality of the Secretariat’s main functions and tasks.The Secretariat is supported by the project staff as well as interns.

The Secretariat has been officially opened in 1999 and is located in the premises of the UN's (Vienna International Centre) in Vienna, Austria.
