Dear Readers, |
||||
Just 18 months ago, a small team within the ICPDR began the challenging process of evaluating Danube Watch, the magazine of the ICPDR.
This was an enthralling exercise, not only for the indepth professional review, but also because readers were directly asked for feedback. To be honest, we were a bit nervous about the outcome since, up to that point, we produced Danube Watch, sent it out and heard little about it anymore. What would readers say about Danube Watch? How would they comment on the content, style and tone of the magazine?
The aims of the review were to find out if the production costs of Danube Watch were justified, if water professionals throughout the basin saw Danube Watch as a valuable information tool, and - if there was a clear yes to the first two questions - how the magazine could be improved.
Happily, "readers find Danube Watch informative, useful and topical", as stated in the Danube Watch evaluation. "They find most valuable the practical case studies, summaries of progress, features about how problems were addressed, and information on project results." We have taken this message as our mandate and will put much effort into the development of each issue of Danube Watch to meet your expectations and to make Danube Watch as informative and enjoyable as possible.
We have also put a lot of effort into its redesign. Our goal was to make Danube Watch more visually appealing to its readers, so that you not only enjoy reading its messages, but also browse through its pages. The current issue of Danube Watch is the second using the new layout and we hope you like it as much as we do.
All these activities to improve Danube Watch were only possible through the financial support of the UNDP/GEF Danube Regional Project. But where changes take place, mistakes often cannot be avoided, and it happened that the credit to the UNDP/GEF Danube Regional Project did not appear in the last issue of Danube Watch. We are very sorry for this mistake!
In this issue and others to come, we hope that Danube Watch can play an important role in discussing relevant topics for water management in the Danube River Basin, from agricultural practices to zero discharge.
But the continued success of Danube Watch depends on you! If you have ideas to improve Danube Watch, suggestions for topics to discuss or projects to promote, let us know. Together we can make Danube Watch the right magazine for the Danube River Basin.
