Ministerial Declaration “On Further Development of Cooperation on the Protection of the Dnipro Basin”
Ukraine and Belarus have taken additional steps to improve the environmental situation existing in the Dnipro River Basin. Main results to-date include, inter alia:
- The completion of Phase І of the UNDP-GEF Dnipro Basin Environment Programme, which involved the preparation of the Dnipro Basin Strategic Action Programme (SAP) and its Implementation Mechanisms, designed to ensure the progress towards environmental rehabilitation of the Dnipro Basin;
- The on-going preparatory process for implementation of Phase ІІ of the UNDP-GEF Dnipro Programme in 2008–2010 will involve the implementation of priority actions identified in the SAP aim to reduce the level of persistent toxics pollution and establishing a common institutional mechanism for SAP implementation.
In order to finalize the approval process for the Dnipro Basin Strategic Action Programme and agree upon the key areas for further cooperation, the Ministerial Declaration on Further Development of Cooperation on the Protection of the Dnipro Basin was signed on 17 July, 2007 between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine.
