Sustainable Coastal Development in South Africa

This collection of "Project Information Sheets" is a first attempt to catalogue and provide key information on initiatives that contribute to implementation of the White Paper for Sustainable Coastal Development in South Africa. The portfolio is not at this stage in any way comprehensive, and will be updated and expanded on a bi-annual basis.

This portfolio aims to:

  • Inform interested parties about projects that seek to promote optimal, equitable and sustainable use of South Africa's rich coastal resources;

  • Improve communication and lesson learning amongst coastal management practitioners by providing contacts for each project; and

  • Provide ideas and inspiration so that successful initiatives are replicated along the coast.

CoastCARE is an initiative of the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism to promote equitable, sustainable and optimal use of South Africa's valuable coastal resources.
