Advanced Regional Training Workshop on Larval Fish IdentificationThe UNEP/GEF South China Sea Project’s Advanced Regional Training Workshop on Larval Fish Identification was successfully convened from 25th May – 14th June 2008. This training workshop was organised by the Training Department of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), and was led by the regional larval fish expert, Dr. Yoshinobu Konishi of Japan. The three week workshop was aimed at providing participants from the first larval fish training event convened in May 2007 with an opportunity to work in the laboratory with regional experts to practice identifying economically important fish species to the family and species levels. Participants were also trained to draw and stain larval specimens and these are being used for the production of a regional guide on the identification of the larvae of coastal and marine larval fish of Southeast Asia. |
