The Final Seminar of the UNDP/GEF Danube Regional Project (DRP) took place on 21-22 February 2007 in Bucharest, Romania. It began with an overview of UNDP/GEF activities in the Danube Basin over the last 15 years, including the lead-up to the DRP begun in 2001. This was followed by reports and country responses about how the DRP successfully planned and implemented numerous activities supporting the reduction of nutrient and toxic pollution and strengthened transboundary cooperation. Day 2 of the Seminar focused on how to sustain the use of DRP outputs into the future. It ended with final statements by key international organizations that had been involved with and witnessed the excellent work done by the DRP - work which surely "fertilized" future pollution reduction efforts in the Danube Basin.

The DRP Final Seminar catalyzed the opportunity for the EC and Environment Ministers from all of the 16 countries sharing the Danube River Basin and Black Sea region to adopt
a new Declaration on the Enhancement of Cooperation during
a High Level Ministerial Meeting in Bucharest, Romania. The Meeting immediately followed the DRP Final Seminar on February 23. The Declaration recognized that more cooperation and efforts are required by all to improve the environment, especially to fulfil the EU Water Framework Directive by 2015 and to solve the shared nutrient pollution problem.
