The Section of Transparency and Governance, an integral part of the Department of State Modernization and Governance of the Organization of American States, is focused on new efforts leading to promote greater transparency and integrity in the public administration of American countries.
This objective, currently relevant in the political agendas of the Organization’s member states, is founded on the belief that the promotion of these values can be considered a cornerstone for democratic governance to improve the relationship between the state and its own citizens. Furthermore, it serves as an instrument to control corruption and to increase public officers’ responsibility.
The recognition of the importance of this objective has led to successive mandates and documents issued by the political bodies of the Organization, in addition to national laws adopted by a growing number of countries.
