Details
Analysis – Why the BMP worked or did not work?: In Progress
Description: Wetlands offer natural means to retain nutrients, mitigate floods and improve ecosystem biodiversity. Reconnection of wetlands and floodplains is being investigated in the Tisza River Basin and the results are linked to the development of an integrated river basing managment plan - integrating land/water management to reduce the impacts of floods and to enhance ecosystem quality. Three demonstration projects are investigating different aspects of wetlands / floodplains and their contribution to improved water quality and reduced impacts from floods
Lessons learned: Land ownership issues more complex and time consuming that originally thought
