Credit: EbS (Entsorgungsbetriebe Simmering) NEW MAIN SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT IN VIENNA

Vienna’s main sewage treatment plant opened on June 18. This plant purifies 90% of the city’s wastewater, over 500,000m3 on a dry day. Wastewater takes 20 hours to pass through the mechanical and biological purification stages before it can be discharged into the Danube. This expansion of the sewage treatment plant, begun in 2000, confirms the city’s reputation for high environmental standards.
