On 25 November 2003 the international symposium “Water in the Danube
Region” occurred on occasion of the 10 year anniversary of IAWD (International
Association of Water Supply Companies in the Danube Catchment Area). This
symposium
also served as a kick-off of the activities for the IWA World Water Congress
2008 in Vienna. IWA (International Water Association) selected the Danube
region for the coming 5 years as main area for its activities. Seminars,
workshops and conferences will strengthen the exchange of know-how. 3000
water specialists are expected at this World Congress.
IAWD is concerned with improving and safeguarding the water quality of the
Danube and its tributaries. IAWD encourages all measures
and attempts directed at avoiding and eliminating all contamination of,
and hazards to, the raw water quality in order to ensure reliable drinking
water supply.
