At this conference two important documents will be signed: the Memorandum of Understanding between the ICPDR and ICPBS and a Joint Declaration on Water and Water related Ecosystems in the Wider Black Sea Region.
At this occasion also the Task Force on Co-operation on water protection in the Danube and Black Sea Region – the DABLAS Task Force – will be created, in order to provide a platform for co-operation for the clean up of the wider Black Sea Region.

The regular ICPDR Plenary Session will be held in Vienna, hosted by the Austrian Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Land- und Forstwitschaft und Wasser.
December 3-7, 2001, Bonn
The International Conference on Freshwater serves as a preparatory step on freshwater issues for the upcoming World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002. The main objective of the Conference is to develop recommendations for the Summit on water and sustainable development issues. Building on the progress achieved in the implementation of Chapter 18 (Agenda 21), the Conference will identify remaining obstacles and define necessary actions. The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany is to host the International Conference on Freshwater as announced at the 6th meeting of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development. The Conference will take place from 3 - 7 December 2001, in Bonn, Germany. On this occasion, in the frame of the Side Event – "A Decade of GEF Experiences on Transboundary Waters" Joachim Bendow, the ICPDR Executive Secretary has been invited by the GEF Secretariat to speak about Water Management in the Danube River Basin.
