The Multilateral Co-operative
Project on Phase-out of PCB Use and Management of PCB-contaminated
Wastes in the Russian Federation was initiated in 1998 under the
Arctic Council's Action Plan for Elimination of Pollution in the Arctic
(ACAP).
This initiative, supported by all Arctic Countries, and the Netherlands,
is designed to support Russia in its preparations for joining the
Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and the UN
ECE LRTAP Convention Protocol on Persistent Organic Pollutants.
The project includes three phases:
- Evaluation of the current status of the problem with respect
to environmental impact and development of proposals for priority
remedial actions.
- Feasibility study.
- Implementation of demonstration projects.
